Pauls Valley Chamber of Commerce Banquet, Oct. 23

East Central University president and Pauls Valley native Wendell Godwin will be the guest speaker at the Pauls Valley Chamber of Commerce’s annual Chamber Banquet Oct. 23.

This year’s celebration will be held at the Bosa Community Center, 207 Bosa Ave., with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. The Chamber will also announce its Citizen of the Year and Corporate Citizen of the Year awards at the banquet, and the evening’s activities will include a silent auction, an open bar and the always popular dessert dash. Tickets are $45 in advance or $55 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased at the PV Chamber of Commerce, 112 E. Paul Ave., or online at PaulsValleyChamber.com. Co-Parenting for Resilience offered Oct. 22

The next Co-Parenting for Resilience course will be Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the Garvin County Courthouse.

Extension Family and Consumer Sciences Educator Julie Selman provides in-person classes for Garvin County. All classes are held from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Commissioner's Conference Room, on the first floor of the Garvin County Courthouse, 201 W. Grant Ave.

Registration and Fees MUST be received by the Garvin County Extension Office no later than Friday, Oct. 17. If the class does not meet a minimum registration of three individuals, the class will be canceled due to OSU policy. Library Story Time, Thursdays at 10 a.m.

Children of all ages are invited to come have fun reading, singing and crafting during Story Time at the Nora Sparks Warren Library, 210 N. Willow St., in Pauls Valley. Story Time is at 10 a.m. each Thursday.

 

Toy and Action Figure Museum to host International Superhero Festival, Oct. 18

The Toy and Action Figure Museum will celebrate its 20th anniversary by hosting the International Superhero Festival Oct. 18 in Pauls Valley. Guests are invited to come dressed as their favorite superhero or, better yet, as their own original superhero and be a part of a downtown scavenger hunt to gather clues to save the town from the supervillains and their diabolical plan to send the whole town to another dimension. Participation in the scavenger hunt is free and the museum will have free admission all day. Other planned activities include trivia contests for prizes, photo ops and challenges throughout the day.

Registration will be from 10 to 11 a.m. A group photo is scheduled for around 11 a.m. and the scavenger hunt will run from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a presentation of awards at 1:30 p.m. The Toy and Action Figure Museum is at 111 S. Chickasaw St. For more information call 405238-6300.

 

Call for past Wiley Post Festival T-shirts

A group of Maysville quilters is asking for donations of Wiley Post Festival T-shirts from previous years. The shirts will be used to make quilts the group plans to put up for auction at next year’s Wiley Post Festival as a fundraiser for the Maysville library. Anyone interested in donating a shirt can contact the Maysville library at 405-867-4748.

 

PVAC hosts Sip and Paint, Oct. 23

The Pauls Valley Arts Council, 220 W. Paul Ave., will host a fall Sip and Paint for all ages Oct. 23 from 6 to 9 p.m. The cost is $25 and includes all materials and snacks. To register visit the “Pauls Valley Arts Council” on Facebook.

 

Garvin County Health Dept. hosts free flu clinic, Oct. 24

The Garvin County Health Department, in partnership with the Chickasaw Nation, will offer free flu shots from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24 at 1809 S. Chickasaw St. Participants are encouraged to wear short sleeves and avoid bringing pets. The event is intended for ages 9 and older. Influenza, also known as the flu, is caused by a virus that affects the nose, throat, airways and lungs. The flu typically circulates in the United States from the beginning of October through the middle of May. One of the best ways to prevent the flu is by getting a flu vaccine each year. Those at highest risk of serious complications include adults 65 years and older, pregnant women, children younger than two years of age and individuals with chronic conditions, like diabetes or heart disease.

 

Maysville roll off cleanup starts Oct. 18

Maysville’s town-wide roll off cleanup will begin Oct. 18. Residents with vehicles are asked to bring their large trash items to the designated roll off location.

Maintenance crews will begin curbside pickup Oct. 20 for those without transportation. Residents are asked to place trash by the curb in a way that does not block regular trash service.

 

Fifth Friday Art Walk, Oct. 31

The Pauls Valley Arts Council will hold their next Fifth Friday Art Walk Oct. 31 from 6 to 9 p.m. in downtown Pauls Valley, with live music, free carriage rides, food, hot apple cider, and plenty of vendors and art on display.
