Caregivers support group meets first and third Thursdays

A caregivers support group meets at the Nora Sparks Warren Library, 210 N. Willow St., in Pauls Valley, on the first and third Thursdays of each month from 5:30-6:30 p.m. For more information contact the library at 405-2385188.

 

Fundraiser raffle to benefit Rush Creek firefighter

Opportunities to win a John Deere 3110 riding lawnmower and a 5’ x 8’ trailer are now available with all proceeds going to help Kevin Gorden in his battle against cancer. Kevin worked on John Deere equipment for 27 years and served as Assistant Rush Creek Fire Chief for 16 years. Raffle tickets are $30 each and may be purchased by calling Jimmy Gorden at 405-207-1274. Winner will be drawn on August 12, 2023. Need not be present to win. Lawn mower and trailer donated by United Ag & Turf.

 

County blood drives, Aug. 16 & 17

Pauls Valley’s Nora Sparks Warren Library, 210 N. Willow, will host a blood drive Wednesday, Aug. 16, from 9:45 a.m. to noon. Contact Rhonda Slayden at 405-2385188 to schedule a donation time.

There will also be a blood drive at Lindsay’s United Methodist Church, 114 W. Chickasaw in Lindsay Thursday, Aug. 17, from 12:30-5:30 p.m. Contact Anthony Rouse at 405-756-4604 to schedule a donation time.

 

Gatlin Brothers to perform Pauls Valley concert Oct. 28

The Gatlin Brothers, Larry, Steve and Rudy, are slated to perform a special concert in Pauls Valley Oct. 28. The concert begins at 7 p.m. at the Pauls Valley High School Auditorium, 601 North Street. The Grammy award-winning artists will be accompanied by the Garvin County Sinfonietta with conductor Jack Bowman.

The Gatlin Brothers have entertained audiences in venues around the world for nearly 70 years, earning a Grammy for Best Country Song, and three ACM awards for Single of the Year, Album of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year. They have accumulated seven number one singles, 32 Top 40 records and 24 studio albums.

Tickets are $50 and $100 per person for general seating, and $250 for “Gatlin Friends” seating at tables in front of the stage. Tickets can be purchased online at garvincountysings. com.

 

‘Bank on your Health’ every second Monday

The Health Department’s Mobile Wellness Unit will be visiting First United Bank, 315 West Grant Avenue, Pauls Valley from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. every second Monday to offer a variety of health screenings to the public at no cost. All ages are welcome. The next Bank on Your Health event is Aug. 14. Screenings and services offered include flu shots, COVID-19 testing and vaccinations, rapid tests for flu, RSV, & strep, cholesterol tests, A1C, thyroid & metabolic panels, diabetes health education, and resources and referrals. There will also be body composition analysis readings using a Tanita biometric scale. Participants stand barefoot on the scale and electrical impulses help to provide information about bone mass, hydration levels, visceral fat and more.

 

Storytelling at Pikes Peak Museum, Aug. 13

The Lindsay Community Historical Society will celebrate family history as it hosts Storytelling at the Pikes Peak Museum Aug. 13 at 2 p.m. This month’s event will feature England family history told by Jim and Barbara England. The Pikes Peak Museum is in Erin Springs, two miles south of Lindsay, across from the Murray Lindsay Mansion.

The rural school building was formerly located southwest of Lindsay in a rural community known as Pikes Peak. It is one of the remaining rural school buildings operated as a museum to help people remember the value of community life in the early 1900’s. First Thursday Prayer at Wacker Park

Are you dealing with health issues, family crisis, addictions, wayward children, financial worry, or anything else? Why not give God a chance? We want to pray in agreement with you. Prayer at Wacker Park will be held the first Thursday of every month from 6 – 7 p.m. Next prayer in the park will be Thursday, August 3.

 

Beekeeper association meets every 4th Saturday

PV Chamber to host forum with Congressman Tom Cole

Congressman Tom Cole will be the featured speaker at a Chamber Issues Forum hosted by the Pauls Valley Chamber of Commerce Aug. 14 from noon to 1 p.m. The luncheon provides an opportunity for Chamber members to hear from the Congressman and advocate for issues important to the local community. Lunch will be catered by Valley Quality Meats. Admission is $10 for Chamber members and $20 for non-members. The event will be held at the Donald W. Reynolds Recreation Center, 1005 N. Wynnewood Middle School student class schedules

Wynnewood Middle School students are requested to pick up their new class schedules: Monday, August 14, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. and Tuesday, August 15, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Wednesday, August 16, will be first day of classes.

 

Garvin County Free Fair, Aug. 21-26

The 2023 Garvin County Free Fair will be Aug. 21-26 at the Garvin County Fairgrounds. Exhibit entries will be accepted and judged Aug. 21-23. Fair exhibits and entries will be open for public viewing Aug. 24-26. 2023 Pernell All-Class Reunion

Pernell School is having an All-Class Reunion Saturday, August 19, at the First Baptist Church of Elmore City, 107 S. Texas St. The doors will open at noon and the meal will be served at 1:30 p.m. Brisket and drinks will be provided, but you are asked to please bring a covered dish or dessert. The 50th year Class of 1973 will be recognized at the reunion this year. Anyone who has ever attended Pernell School is welcome to come and have a good time.
