Local StoryWalks feature Christmas titles
Two local StoryWalks have Christmas books on display this month for those who want to stroll and read this holiday season. The Stratford Trails and Tales StoryWalk, which was recently unveiled at Stratford’s Town Park, is featuring “Pete the Cat Saves Christmas” through Jan. 2. The Pauls Valley library’s StoryWalk at Wacker Park currently has the Christmas title “A Snowman’s Song,” by Marilee Joy Mayfield on display.
Garvin County 4-H Christmas party
County 4-H members and their families are invited to a winter fun party at the Elmore City Elementary School cafeteria Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. Those attending should bring a snack and a $5 wrapped Secret Santa gift. Boys should bring a boy gift, and girls should bring a girl gift.
Mayhan retirement reception
The public is invited to attend a come-and-go reception to mark the retirement of Steve Mayhan on Dec. 16, from 2-4 p.m. Mayhan is retiring from his position as bailiff for Garvin County’s associate district judge office and from a 33-year career in law enforcement. The reception will be held in the associate district judge’s courtroom on the third floor of the Garvin County Courthouse, 201 W. Grant Ave. in Pauls Valley. Refreshments will be served.
PV library to host blood drive, Dec.27

Stratford’s Christmas on Main, Dec. 11
Stratford area children are invited to celebrate Christmas on Main with Stratford Firemen Sunday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. There will be free hot chocolate, gifts for children and pictures with Santa.
Elmore City Christmas Parade, Dec. 10
The Elmore City Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Christmas parade Saturday, Dec. 10, at 6 p.m. in downtown Elmore City. The evening will include free carriage rides beginning at 4 p.m. in front of the Elmore Community Center, a North Pole Passport Adventure for children at First State Bank, and a chili cookoff at the Elmore City Community Center at 5 p.m.
Christmas in Maysville applications due Dec. 14
Maysville residents will need to have their Christmas in Maysville applications filled out and turned in no later than Wednesday, December 14. Applications are available and may be turned in at the Maysville Public Library, Jack’s Pharmacy or the Garvin County News Star office. Baskets will be available for pick up Friday, December 16, at the Abundant Love Church from 10 a.m. to noon. Deliveries will be made the same day, so please plan to be home. Stratford FBC to break ground on new building
The First Baptist Church of Stratford will hold a groundbreaking service for their new church building, Sunday, Dec. 11, at 121 N. Oak Ave. in Stratford. Morning worship service will be at 11 a.m., followed by lunch at noon and a groundbreaking ceremony at 1 p.m.
