Candidates file for Board of Education positions, Elmore City council seats

As the filing period for school board elections and an Elmore City special election ended Wednesday, all offices had at least one candidate filing, and races seemed to be shaping up for Board of Education seats in the Elmore City-Pernell and Whitebead school districts.

Two candidates filed for Office 2 on the Elmore City-Pernell school board: Brent L. Balentine and Carl Stevens.

Office 1 on Whitebead’s school board also drew two candidates: Jess Lee Patton and Belinda K. Hunt.

With only two candidates filing for those board seats, a Board of Education primary election set for Feb. 8 will be unnecessary and the races will be decided at the Board of Education general election on April 5, 2022.

In Wynnewood, Chase Miller was the only candidate who filed for Board of Education Office 2. That office is currently held by Brandy Nabors. Other candidates filing

Other candidates filing without opposition to retain Board of Education seats they currently hold included Clint L. Simonton for Lindsay Board of Education Office 2, Heidi Gamble for Maysville Board of Education Office 2, Greg Cottrell for Paoli Board of Education Office 2, Aloysius Vincent Jackson Jr. for Pauls Valley Board of Education Office 2 and Megan Green for Stratford Board of Education Office 2.

In Elmore City, Nicolette Haner was the only candidate to file a declaration of candidacy for the vacant Ward 3 city council seat.

A second vacant Elmore City council seat for Ward 2 drew two candidates: Jason D. Smith and Derek Allen Upshaw. That race will be decided in a non-partisan special election on Feb. 8, 2022.
