Burn ban allowed to expire

Garvin County is no longer under a burn ban.

The previous 14-day burn ban that had been in effect since March 23 expired Monday, and with the entire county receiving 3- to 5-inches of rainfall over the last 7 days, the Garvin County Board of Commissioners opted not to issue a new burn ban resolution during their regular meeting Monday morning.

County fire officials do ask that county residents planning to burn on their property, including brush or trash, call the Garvin County dispatch center’s non-emergency number at 405-238-9900 to report the activity prior to burning. Self-reporting allows dispatch to log those burns and check back with property owners if a fire is reported to 911, preventing fire departments from being dispatched unnecessarily.
