Body found dumped in field between Pauls Valley and Wynnewood

The Garvin County Sheriff’s Office and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation are investigating after a body was discovered in a field near State Highway 77 between Pauls Valley and Wynnewood Sunday afternoon.

The Sheriff’s Office received a report around 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon that a passerby had spotted what appeared to be a body partially covered with a blanket in a field on East 1620 Road, near Highway 77.

Deputies discovered the body of a white male, believed to be in his mid-50s. After securing the scene, the OSBI and the medical examiner were called in to assist with the investigation.

“Upon further investigation, we believe that a crime has been committed at a different location and this is where someone has placed the body,” Sheriff Jim Mullett said in a press release issued by the Sheriff’s Office Monday morning.

Mullett said investigators believe the deceased man is from the Oklahoma City Metro area based on evidence found at the scene. It is unclear yet whether he has any ties to the Garvin County area.

According to a statement released by the OSBI Monday evening, a positive identification of the victim and a cause of death are still pending. The case is being investigated as a homicide.

The OSBI is asking anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area of Highway 77 and East 1620 Road this weekend to contact them at (800) 522-8017 or tips@osbi.ok.gov. You can remain anonymous.
