Voter deadlines coming up ahead of August elections

Two election deadlines are coming up in the next few weeks, related to the Aug. 25 Runoff Primary Election and Special Elections. July 31 is the last day to apply for voter registration to be eligible to vote in those elections, and Aug. 10 is the last day to request an absentee ballot.

Those who are United States Citizens, residents of Oklahoma, and at least 17 ½ years old are eligible to apply for voter registration. However, you must be at least 18 years old to vote.

Voter registration applications must be received by the County Election Board or postmarked no later than midnight, July 31. Applications postmarked after that time will be accepted, but will not be processed until after the Aug. 25 election, according to Garvin County Election Board Secretary Holly Levis. Applications may also be submitted to any motor vehicle agency that is also an official voter registration agency by the submission deadline.

Applicants will be notified in writing when their application has been processed. Approved voters will receive a Voter Identification Card in the mail. Some may receive a letter explaining the reason( s) the application could not be approved. Levis said those who do not receive a response within 30 days of submitting their application should contact the County Election Board office immediately.

The Garvin County Election Board reminds voters that applications must be approved by the Secretary of the County Election Board in order to vote.

Registered voters who have moved to Garvin County from a different county or state will need to complete and submit a new Voter Registration Application in order to update their voter registration. New applicants may register to vote using the OK Voter Portal’s Online Voter Registration System at oklahoma.gov/elections/ovp. (A current and valid Oklahoma Driver License or State ID is required for online registration.) Voter Registration Applications can also be download from the State Election Board website at oklahoma.gov/elections or obtained from your County Election Board. Applications are also available at most tag agencies, post offices and public libraries.

If you have moved within the county and need to update your address, you may make changes online using the OK Voter Portal or complete a paper Voter Registration Application.

The Garvin County Election Board is located in the Garvin County Courthouse, 201 W. Grant, Pauls Valley, and is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, please call the County Election Board at 405-2073303 or email at garvincounty@elections.ok.gov.
