Former Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating and former state Insurance Commissioner John Doak were named in a press release announcing a lawsuit alleging misconduct by an insurance company, Insurance Care Direct, with which the former state leaders are associated. The federal lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of California, styled 2:21- cv-06066, was filed by California-based McLaren Insurance Solutions. It alleges that ICD used misleading advertising and marketing to trick people into buying insurance plans that didn't meet their needs but that were profitable for the company to sell. According to the lawsuit, ICD hired well-connected former politicians, including Keating and Doak among others, in order to escape regulatory scrutiny. Asked for a response by The Journal Record, ICD described the lawsuit as baseless and a reaction by McLaren Insurance Solutions to legal complaints concerning practices of individuals involved in its own business dealings.
